What Is a Wallbang in CS2 and Valorant?
Hitting or killing an enemy by shooting through a wall, door, box or other surface that bullets can penetrate.
What does wallbang mean?
A wallbang is a shot that goes through a wall, door, crate or other surface and hits an enemy on the other side. It is possible because bullets in Counter-Strike and Valorant can penetrate certain materials, losing damage on the way. Killing someone this way is called getting a wallbang kill.
How bullet penetration works
Each weapon has a penetration power, and each surface has a resistance. Thin wood, metal sheets and small boxes are usually penetrable; thick concrete and map boundaries are not. Every surface a bullet crosses reduces its damage, so a wallbang that one-shots through a door might only chip an enemy through a thicker wall.
- CS2: rifles like the AK-47, the AWP and the Desert Eagle penetrate the most. Classic spots include the wooden doors on Dust2 and many boxes and thin walls across the map pool.
- Valorant: the arsenal lists each weapon’s wall penetration as Low, Medium or High. The Operator, Odin and Ares have High penetration, and some agent abilities also hit through walls.
When to wallbang
- When you have information: a teammate’s call, footsteps or a recon ability tells you exactly where the enemy is.
- On common spots: defenders often stand in the same places; a burst through a thin wall can punish them.
- During a defuse or plant: the player is standing still in a predictable spot.
- To finish a damaged enemy: even reduced damage can be enough on a low-health target.
Example
On Dust2, a teammate calls that an enemy is defusing the bomb behind a box on A site. You already know the angle, so you spray through the box with an AK-47 and kill him without exposing yourself.
Wallbangs and spraying
Wallbangs are usually a short burst or a controlled spray, not a single tap, so good spray control and knowing the weapon’s recoil pattern make them far more effective. Like a prefire, a good wallbang relies on predicting where the enemy is.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is a wallbang the same as shooting through a smoke?
No. Shooting through a smoke is called spamming the smoke; the bullets do not lose damage because smoke is not a surface. A wallbang crosses a physical object.
Do wallbangs count as headshots?
Yes, if the bullet hits the head after penetrating, it still counts as a headshot, although with reduced damage.
