What Is Spray Control in CS2?
The skill of pulling your mouse against a weapon’s recoil so a full-auto spray keeps hitting the target in CS2.
What is spray control in CS2?
Spray control is the skill of moving your mouse against a weapon’s recoil while holding the trigger, so your bullets stay on target. In CS2 every automatic gun has a fixed recoil pattern, and spray control means pulling the mouse opposite to that pattern: mostly down at first, then sideways as the pattern drifts.
How spray control works
When you hold the trigger, the gun’s recoil pushes your shots up and then to the sides. Spray control is the mouse movement that cancels that push. Done well, a full spray hits close to where you were aiming; done badly, most bullets fly over the enemy’s head.
Spray, burst or tap?
- Spraying: holding the trigger and controlling the recoil. Best at short and medium range or against several enemies.
- Bursting: firing a few bullets, then pausing so the recoil resets. Useful at medium range.
- Tapping: single, precise shots. Best at long range, where even small recoil errors miss.
How to practice
- Learn one weapon first, usually the AK-47 or M4, before moving to others.
- Spray at a wall in an offline server to see the pattern, then try to pull it into a tight group.
- Stop before you shoot. Counter-strafing gives you an accurate first shot, and spray control keeps the following ones on target.
- Practice spray transfers: moving from one enemy to another without letting go of the trigger.
Example
Two enemies push you at close range. You counter-strafe, land the first bullets on the closest one, keep pulling down and slightly sideways as you spray, then drag the crosshair to the second enemy while still firing.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is spray control the same as recoil pattern?
No. The recoil pattern is the path the bullets follow; spray control is the mouse movement you use to compensate for it.
Should I always spray in CS2?
No. Spraying is strongest at close and medium range. At long range, tapping or short bursts are usually more accurate.
