What Is a Recoil Pattern in CS2?
The fixed path a weapon’s bullets follow when you hold the trigger in CS2, different for every gun and learnable with practice.
What is a recoil pattern in CS2?
A recoil pattern (or spray pattern) is the path a weapon’s bullets follow when you keep firing in CS2. Each automatic gun has its own fixed pattern, so the AK-47 always climbs and drifts the same way. Because it repeats, players can learn it and pull their mouse the opposite way to keep bullets on target.
How recoil works
- The first shot is the most accurate when you are standing still.
- Continued fire pushes your shots along the weapon’s pattern, usually upward first and then side to side.
- A small random spread sits on top of the pattern, so even a perfect pull is not pixel-perfect.
- Moving, jumping or running adds extra inaccuracy, which is why players stop before shooting.
Every weapon is different
Rifles, SMGs and machine guns all have their own pattern, length and recovery speed. The AK-47 is known for a strong vertical climb followed by sideways movement, while SMGs are easier to control at close range. Learning the patterns of the guns you use most matters far more than memorizing all of them.
Example
Spray an AK-47 at a wall without moving the mouse. The bullet holes trace the weapon’s pattern: a column going up, then a line drifting sideways. That shape is what you learn to counter with spray control.
Recoil pattern vs. spray control
The recoil pattern is what the weapon does. Spray control is what you do about it: moving your mouse in the opposite direction so the bullets stay on your target.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are CS2 recoil patterns random?
No. Each weapon’s pattern is fixed, with only a small amount of random spread on top. That is what makes spray control learnable.
Do Valorant weapons have recoil patterns too?
Yes, but they are different from CS2’s and behave differently, so practice in the game you actually play.
