What Is Slow Rolling in TFT?

A Teamfight Tactics strategy where you keep a gold floor, usually 50, and reroll only the extra each round to find 3-star units.

What is a slow roll in TFT?

A slow roll is a Teamfight Tactics strategy where you keep a minimum amount of gold, usually 50 for maximum interest, and spend only the gold above that on rerolls each round. It is mostly used in reroll comps built around low-cost champions, staying at a level where those units appear often until you upgrade them to 3 stars.

How slow rolling works

  • Pick a gold floor, usually 50, so you keep earning the maximum interest.
  • Stay at the right level for your comp, where the low-cost champions you need show up most often.
  • Each round, reroll only the gold above your floor and buy copies of your key units.
  • Keep going until your carries are 3 stars, then switch to leveling and strengthening the rest of the board.

Slow roll vs. other ways to spend gold

  • Slow roll: small rolls every round while keeping interest. Steady, but your board can be weak for a while.
  • Roll down: spending most of your gold at once to stabilize or hit a comp quickly.
  • Fast 8: saving gold to level up quickly and look for higher-cost carries instead of 3-star low-cost units.

Example

Your comp is built around a 1-cost carry. You stay at the matching level, and each round with 56 gold you roll three times (6 gold) to go back to 50. Over several rounds you find the copies you need without losing interest.

When slow rolling works best

It works best when few other players are looking for the same units, and when your health can handle a few weaker rounds. If several opponents contest your champions, or you are losing too much health, a faster roll down or a different plan may be better. Slow rolling depends on strong economy; our TFT coaches can help you decide when to use it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is slow roll the same as reroll?

Not exactly. A reroll comp is a team built around 3-star low-cost champions; slow rolling is the most common way to play it.

Do I always have to stay at 50 gold?

50 is the usual floor because it gives maximum interest, but players drop below it when they need to stabilize or close out a comp.
