How Does PvP Rating Work in World of Warcraft?
The rating you earn in each rated PvP bracket in WoW, which sets your seasonal rank, rewards and titles.
What is PvP rating in WoW?
PvP rating is the number World of Warcraft tracks for you in each rated bracket: 2v2 and 3v3 arena, Solo Shuffle, Rated Battlegrounds and Battleground Blitz. Wins raise it and losses lower it, and reaching certain ratings during a season unlocks ranks, gear appearances and titles.
One rating per bracket

Each bracket has its own rating, so a high 3v3 rating says nothing about your Solo Shuffle. Solo Shuffle and Blitz track rating per specialization, so switching specs means starting a separate climb.
Rating vs. MMR
Besides the rating you see, the game keeps a hidden matchmaking rating (MMR) for finding opponents. Wins against higher-MMR teams are worth more. When your visible rating is below your MMR, you gain more per win until the two meet; when it is above, gains shrink. That is why a fresh character often climbs fast at first.
What rating unlocks
- Seasonal ranks, starting with Combatant and going up through higher ranks as your rating increases.
- Elite appearances, the season’s PvP transmog sets for players who reach high ratings.
- Titles and mounts for the very top, with Gladiator in 3v3 arena as the best-known reward.
Blizzard sets the exact rating thresholds for each season, so check the current season’s rewards before planning your goal.

A player at a modest 3v3 rating keeps beating teams with higher MMR. Each win pays more than usual, so they reach the next seasonal rank in fewer games than a player farming weaker opponents.
