What Does Inting Mean in Gaming?
Dying on purpose to make your own team lose, from “intentionally feeding”, a reportable offense in most games.
What does inting mean?
Inting comes from intentional feeding: dying on purpose so the enemy team gets stronger and your team loses. Someone doing it is an inter. The term started in League of Legends and Dota 2 and is now used in most competitive games. It is different from simply playing badly, and it is a reportable offense.
Inting vs. feeding vs. throwing
| Term | Intentional? | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Feeding | No | A player dies often and gives the enemy gold and experience |
| Throw | No | A team loses a winning game through avoidable mistakes |
| Inting | Yes | A player dies or sabotages on purpose to make the team lose |
In chat, “int” is often used loosely for any bad play. That is unfair: a player having a bad game is feeding, not inting. Real inting is deliberate, for example walking into enemies repeatedly or “running it down mid”.
How games deal with inting
- Reports: League of Legends has a specific report category for intentionally feeding; other games use griefing or sabotage categories.
- Penalties: chat restrictions, ranked bans, queue restrictions and, in severe cases, account suspensions.
- Dota 2: reports and abandons can send players to Low Priority, a separate queue that must be cleared by winning games.
Example
After an argument in champion select, a player starts walking into the enemy team every time they respawn and ends with 0/14. The team reports them for intentional feeding, and the player receives a ranked restriction after review.
What to do if a teammate ints
Mute them, report after the game and keep playing for objectives. Arguing usually spreads tilt to the rest of the team. Inting is also different from going AFK: both hurt the team, but an inter stays in the game and actively helps the enemy.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is it inting if I just have a bad game?
No. Dying a lot while trying to win is feeding. Inting means doing it on purpose, and report systems look for that intent.
What does “running it down mid” mean?
It describes a player who keeps running straight into enemies, often through the middle lane, to die on purpose. It is one of the most obvious forms of inting.
