Carrying the ball through the air with several controlled touches while you fly, usually starting from the wall or the ground.
What is an air dribble in Rocket League?
An air dribble is when you carry the ball through the air with several controlled touches while flying with boost, keeping it close to the front of your car. Unlike a single-touch aerial, the goal is to stay in control of the ball for the whole play, usually all the way to the opponent’s goal.
Main types of air dribble
| Type | How it starts |
|---|---|
| Wall air dribble | You drive up the wall with the ball, pop it off and follow it into the air. |
| Ground-to-air dribble | You pop the ball up from the ground with a light touch and take off after it. |
| Backboard / redirect | You start from a ball coming off the backboard or a teammate’s pass. |
Keys to a good air dribble
- A clean setup: the first touch decides everything. A ball that is too far or too fast is hard to follow.
- Feathering boost: tapping boost instead of holding it lets you match the ball’s speed.
- Soft touches: push the ball, don’t hit it, so it stays close to your car.
- Finish with a plan: a final shot, a fake or a flip reset to beat the defender.
Example
You dribble the ball up the side wall, pop it off and follow it toward the goal with small taps of boost. The keeper comes out to challenge, so you touch the ball over them and finish into the empty net.
When to use it
Air dribbles are strongest when you have time and boost, and when defenders are not ready to challenge in the air. If an opponent is already waiting at the right height, a simpler pass or shot is often better. If you want help practising setups and finishes, our Rocket League coaches can guide you.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between an aerial and an air dribble?
An aerial is usually one touch in the air. An air dribble is a sequence of controlled touches that keeps the ball close to your car while you fly.
How do I start practising air dribbles?
Try ground-to-air dribbles in free play first: pop the ball up gently, then take off and touch it softly while feathering boost.
