VALORANT’s Biggest Update of 2026: Warden Rifle, Gauntlet Mode & Agent Mastery
Riot is going big with VALORANT.
A brand-new rifle, a chaotic 16-player mode, a complete Agent progression system and new Competitive features are all part of what Riot is calling VALORANT’s biggest update of 2026.
The major changes arrive with Patch 13.06 on September 22, and some of them could have a real impact on how players approach the game.
Here’s everything you need to know.
The Warden Is VALORANT’s New Rifle
For years, buying a full rifle round in VALORANT has mostly meant one question:
Vandal or Phantom?
Now there’s a third option.
The Warden is a new automatic rifle priced at 2,900 Credits, putting it directly in the same price tier as VALORANT’s two most popular rifles.
But it isn’t designed to simply replace either one.
The Warden focuses more heavily on long-range fights and ADS accuracy, creating a middle ground between a traditional rifle and a sniper.
Its key characteristics include:
2,900 Credit price
18-round magazine
2x ADS zoom
Consistent damage across range
Slower fire rate than the Vandal and Phantom
Stronger focus on long-range engagements
That makes the Warden especially interesting for players who like holding long sightlines but don’t want to commit to an Operator or other sniper weapon.

Can the Warden Challenge the Vandal and Phantom?
That is going to be one of the biggest questions after Patch 13.06.
The Vandal remains popular because of its one-tap potential at any range, while the Phantom offers faster fire, easier spray control and strong close-to-mid-range performance.
The Warden introduces another option entirely.
Its stronger zoom and long-range consistency could make it valuable on maps with extended sightlines or for players who naturally prefer slower, more controlled gunfights.
At the same time, an 18-round magazine and lower fire rate mean missing shots could be much more punishing.
Expect players to spend plenty of time figuring out where the Warden actually fits into the Competitive meta.
Gauntlet: Glitched Is VALORANT’s Wildest Mode Yet
The second major addition is Gauntlet: Glitched, and this is very different from normal VALORANT.
The mode features 16 players split into eight teams of two, competing through a series of 2v2 battles.
But there’s a twist.
Instead of selecting a normal Agent and using their standard kit, players create their own Robo-Agent by drafting abilities from a randomized pool.
That means your character can effectively become a hybrid built from abilities that normally belong to completely different Agents.
And things get even crazier from there.

Build Your Own Agent
Throughout Gauntlet: Glitched, players can:
Draft randomized abilities
Create unique ability combinations
Upgrade abilities during the match
Adapt their build as the competition continues
Deal with unexpected ability “glitches”
The result is a much more unpredictable experience than standard VALORANT.
One match could give you a powerful aggressive setup, while another might push you toward mobility, utility or defensive play.
The Glitched part of the mode can also modify familiar abilities in unexpected ways, making each run feel different.
It’s essentially VALORANT experimenting with a more roguelike-style format while keeping the game’s gunplay at the center.
Agent Mastery Is Replacing Agent Gear
Patch 13.06 also introduces one of VALORANT’s biggest progression changes in years.
The current Agent Gear system is being replaced by Agent Mastery.
Instead of progression mainly being about unlocking cosmetics through each Agent’s track, the new system is built around showing how much time — and skill — you’ve invested into your favorite Agents.
Agent Mastery is divided into several systems:
Act Levels
Lifetime Levels
Mastery Points
Agent IDs
Act Levels Show Your Current Grind
Act Levels represent how much you’ve invested into an Agent during the current Act.
Players earn Mastery Points while playing their chosen Agent, allowing them to progress through the track and upgrade their Agent Portrait.
These levels reset at the end of each Act.
That gives players a new way to show which Agents they’re actively playing right now.
Lifetime Levels Track Long-Term Mastery
While Act Levels reset, Lifetime Levels are permanent.
They represent your overall investment into a specific Agent across your time playing VALORANT.
Progressing through Lifetime Levels can unlock Agent-specific rewards such as:
Sprays
Voice lines
Mastery Player Cards
Mastery Poses
This gives dedicated mains a much clearer way to show how much time they’ve put into mastering their Agent.
Mastery Points Reward Playing — and Performing
Progression is powered by Mastery Points.
You earn them simply by playing matches with an Agent, but strong performances and match results can provide additional progress.
That means Agent Mastery isn’t only about grinding matches.
Playing well matters too.
For players who want to master a specific Agent, structured VALORANT coaching can help improve mechanics, utility usage, positioning and decision-making while progressing through Agent Mastery.
Agent IDs Let You Show Off Your Main
Agent Mastery also introduces customizable Agent IDs.
These work as a personalized display for your Agent progression and can include different modules such as:
Portraits
Icons
Borders
Backgrounds
Stances
Tracked statistics
Mastery cosmetics
For players who have one true main, this gives them a much better way to show it.
Competitive Progression Is Getting Upgraded
Riot is also making changes to how Competitive progression is presented.
The goal is to give players better ways to track their ranked journey and showcase accomplishments.
While not every system arrives immediately with Patch 13.06, Riot has already outlined bigger plans heading into 2027.
One of them is a new Competitive Flex system.
This feature will evolve throughout the year based on your Competitive achievements, with additional upgrades available as players progress across different Acts.
That means ranked progression is becoming more visible beyond just the icon next to your current rank.
Ranked Players Have More to Chase
For Competitive players, that could make the climb feel more rewarding.
Instead of only pushing from Gold to Platinum, Diamond to Ascendant or Immortal to Radiant, players will have more ways to display what they achieved throughout the year.
And with VALORANT constantly changing through new Agents, maps and balance updates, maintaining a strong Competitive rank still requires consistent adaptation.
Players focused on climbing can combine regular ranked play with VALORANT boosting, placement services, ranked wins or play-with-a-pro sessions depending on how they want to approach their Competitive journey.
You Can Finally Use the Practice Range While Queuing
One smaller change might become one of the most appreciated.
Players will be able to enter the Practice Range while waiting in matchmaking queue.
No more sitting on the main menu doing nothing.
You can warm up your aim, practice movement and stay active while waiting for a match to start.
For Competitive players especially, this is a simple but useful quality-of-life improvement.
What Patch 13.06 Means for VALORANT
Patch 13.06 isn’t just another balance update.
It adds several major systems at the same time:
Warden, a third premium rifle option
Gauntlet: Glitched, a 16-player experimental mode
Agent Mastery
Agent IDs
Improved Competitive progression
Practice Range access during queue
A redesigned Home Screen
And Riot is already teasing more to come after Champions.
That makes this update less about changing a few Agents and more about expanding what VALORANT can be.
Improve Your VALORANT Rank in the New Meta
The Warden, Agent Mastery and Competitive updates will give players even more to learn as the meta evolves.
If you're looking to climb, we offer professional VALORANT boosting, rank boosting, placements, ranked wins, coaching and play-with-a-pro services.
Whether your goal is a higher rank or better overall performance, adapting quickly to weapon choices, Agent matchups and team coordination will be key.
The VALORANT Meta Is About to Get More Interesting
The Warden alone could create weeks of experimentation.
Players will need to figure out which maps favor it, which positions benefit from the extra zoom and whether it can realistically compete with the Phantom and Vandal in high-level ranked play.
At the same time, Agent Mastery gives players another reason to specialize, while the Competitive updates make ranked achievements more meaningful and visible.
For anyone planning to push their VALORANT rank, this is a good time to sharpen mechanics, update your weapon choices and make sure you understand the meta before the next stage of the Competitive season.
VALORANT Is Going Bigger Than a Normal Patch
Riot calling this the biggest VALORANT update of 2026 makes sense.
A new rifle directly challenges one of the game's oldest weapon decisions. Gauntlet: Glitched completely breaks the normal rules for Agent abilities. Agent Mastery changes long-term progression, and Riot is already building toward a more rewarding Competitive system.
Patch 13.06 arrives September 22, and VALORANT is about to feel very different.
