The update continues the story of Zul’jan and Zul’jarra as the mysterious fog surrounding an island east of Zul’Aman finally disappears. What waits beyond that mist is not another forgotten ruin—it is an ecosystem twisted by poison, ancient hatred and the influence of Ula’tek.

What has been officially confirmed is that the rollout will happen in two stages:

The initial content update will introduce the new campaign, the Coiled Isle and Altar of Fangs up to Heroic difficulty. One week later, the new raid, Mythic+ rotation, PvP season, Bountiful Delves and other competitive endgame activities will become available.
As of July 27, 2026, Curse of Ula’tek remains on the Public Test Realm. Players should therefore treat balance numbers, class-set bonuses and reward values as subject to change.
Curse of Ula’tek continues the story of Zul’jan, whose actions have released a powerful ancient creature associated with hatred, corruption and venom.
Players will accompany Zul’jarra as she pursues her brother to a previously hidden island off the eastern coast of Zul’Aman. During the campaign, players will uncover the buried history of the Coiled Isle, discover what was imprisoned there and learn who was abandoned when the island disappeared behind the mist.

This is not a small seasonal refresh. Curse of Ula’tek is shaping up to be a full endgame expansion for Midnight.
The Coiled Isle is a corrupted island filled with poisonous waters, venomous creatures and remnants of a long-buried civilization.
The zone lies east of Zul’Aman and becomes accessible when the supernatural fog surrounding it finally lifts. Beneath the island’s mountain, players will discover new activities designed for solo adventurers, organized groups and open-world progression.
The Vaults of Atal’Utek provide challenging group content and rotating public events.
Completing these events builds toward a larger boss encounter, creating an activity loop similar to other progressive outdoor events but with the poisonous identity of the Coiled Isle.
Players will also have access to a zone-specific talent tree. Its perks include direct player-power upgrades and quality-of-life bonuses, such as reducing the strength of the island’s venom effects.
Curse Surges periodically activate at five rotating locations across the Coiled Isle.
These events summon rare elite enemies. Defeating the active rare unlocks Cursed Fishing at that location, connecting combat, exploration and profession-style activities within the same outdoor system.
Players will meet Tokka, a tortollan sea captain with his own local storyline.
Adventurers will be able to increase their reputation with Tokka’s crew while learning how to fish in the corrupted waters surrounding the island. This storyline should provide additional rewards and context for the Coiled Isle beyond the central Zul’jan campaign.
The main attraction of Midnight Season 2 is The Venomous Abyss, a new raid featuring eight boss encounters.
The raid culminates in a battle against Ula’tek, the ancient entity unleashed by Zul’jan. Blizzard describes Ula’tek as a creature of hatred, corruption and venom, establishing the raid as one of Midnight’s darkest and most hostile environments.

Voidscar Arena brings its combat-heavy structure into the Season 2 pool.
Its arena format may place greater emphasis on priority targeting, movement and surviving repeated waves rather than navigating a traditional dungeon layout.
One of Battle for Azeroth’s most memorable dungeons returns.
King’s Rest is known for dangerous trash packs, strict boss execution and encounters capable of destroying unprepared groups. Interrupt assignments and defensive planning will be essential.
Ruby Life Pools returns from Dragonflight.
Its compact layout may produce fast completion times, but previous versions of the dungeon were known for intense magical damage and punishing boss mechanics. Healers should prepare for heavy group-wide pressure.
Temple of Sethraliss also returns from Battle for Azeroth.
The dungeon combines serpent-themed environments, multi-target encounters and an unusual final-boss structure, making it an ideal thematic match for Curse of Ula’tek.
Before Season 2 begins, players should:
Learn the returning dungeon layouts.
Review boss abilities in King’s Rest, Ruby Life Pools and Temple of Sethraliss.
Configure interrupts, defensives and utility abilities in the Cooldown Manager.
Create separate talent loadouts for AoE and boss encounters.

Lairs are an evolution of World of Warcraft’s traditional world-boss system.
Instead of waiting in an open-world area, players will enter an instanced location similar to a Delve. Lairs support selectable difficulty levels that scale up to flexible Mythic encounters for groups of approximately 15 to 25 players. A summoning stone will be positioned outside each Lair to make group formation easier.
This system addresses several common problems with world bosses:

The updated season should give open-world players another repeatable progression path alongside Delves, Curse Surges and the Vaults of Atal’Utek.
Players pursuing higher Prey difficulties should prepare flexible builds rather than relying entirely on maximum-damage raid setups. Self-healing, interrupts and defensive abilities can become significantly more important in solo or small-group hunts.
Every specialization will receive new Venomous Abyss class-set bonuses.
These two-piece and four-piece effects are designed around core rotational abilities, with several bonuses modifying resource generation, major cooldowns, healing patterns or priority attacks. The sets are still undergoing significant PTR tuning, meaning players should avoid making final class rankings before the live patch arrives.
On the PTR, Blizzard increased maximum-level player health and enemy damage by 25%.
The goal is to make incoming damage less dependent on sudden, extreme spikes and give healers more time to react. Health consumables are also being adjusted to match the new health values.
This does not necessarily mean content will become 25% harder. Player health is increasing alongside enemy damage, and the final experience will depend on class tuning, encounter design and item-level progression.
Several specializations are receiving adjustments intended to reduce the difference between damage dealt during major cooldowns and damage dealt during the rest of the rotation.
Blizzard’s stated goal is to preserve exciting cooldown moments while preventing classes from feeling weak or incomplete whenever those cooldowns are unavailable.
Curse of Ula’tek includes several important adjustments to raid rewards, the Great Vault, the Catalyst and Nebulous Voidcores.
Under the current PTR system:
Raid Finder, Normal and Heroic Great Vault rewards move to the first upgrade step of the next track.
A Heroic raid Vault reward, for example, begins at Myth 1/6.
Mythic raid Vault rewards begin at Myth 6/6.
Very Rare items and loot from the final two Mythic bosses can reach the equivalent of Myth 9.
These changes are intended to make raid progression more competitive with Mythic+ as a source of high-level equipment.
Season 1 Nebulous Voidcores will be converted into gold when the season ends.
New Nebulous Voidcores will be available through the Great Vault from the beginning of Season 2. The cost of rolling for a raid item is also being reduced from two Voidcores to one.
Players should therefore spend any Season 1 Voidcores they still need before the seasonal transition rather than expecting to carry them into the new progression cycle.
Class-set pieces created through the Catalyst will inherit the secondary and tertiary stats of the original item.
Certain special item effects, including compatible cantrip effects, may also remain after conversion. This creates more control over stat optimization but means players will need to pay closer attention to the base item they place into the Catalyst.
A poorly itemized piece will no longer automatically transform into the standard secondary-stat distribution associated with that tier slot.
Later in the season, Ascendant Venomstones will provide another form of high-end item progression.
According to the current plan, they can be earned from activities including:
Heroic and Mythic raid bosses.
Mythic+ dungeons at level 10 or higher.
Tier 11 Bountiful Delves.
Nightmare Prey Hunt Champion reward boxes.
Ten Ascendant Venomstones will be required to upgrade an eligible piece. Weapons, trinkets and necklaces are among the planned upgrade options.
Midnight Season 2 launches a new rated PvP season with a fresh progression ladder and seasonal rewards.
Curse of Ula’tek also expands Training Grounds to include battles against computer-controlled opponents in Arenas. Players can queue for Random Arenas with up to two other players through the PvP section of the Group Finder.
This gives newer players a safer environment to:
Learn Arena positioning.
Practice crowd-control chains.
Test macros and keybinds.
Coordinate defensive cooldowns.
Experiment with unfamiliar specializations.
Practice before entering rated matches.
PvP crowd-control diminishing returns are also being adjusted on the PTR, with the reset timer increasing from 16 to 20 seconds for Season 2.
Patch 12.1 introduces the largest expansion of Midnight’s Housing system so far.
Players will be able to save complete Housing layouts as Blueprints.

Blueprint codes can be shared with other players across supported regions. The import interface displays required rooms, missing decorations and the necessary budget before applying the layout.
Players can maintain up to 50 manual Blueprint slots and 10 additional automatic backups. These auto-saves are created when importing layouts, making it easier to reverse unwanted changes.
Pet Beds allow players to assign companion pets to their homes.
