World of Warcraft: Forever – Release Date, Beta, New Zones & Everything We Know
Azeroth is going back to where it all started — but this isn't another trip through the exact same 2004 experience.
World of Warcraft: Forever is Blizzard's new permanent take on original Azeroth, combining the slower, world-focused spirit of classic WoW with completely new zones, quests, dungeons, raids, systems and stories.
Revealed at BlizzCon 2026, Forever will exist alongside modern World of Warcraft and WoW Classic as its own long-term version of the game.
And players won't have to wait long.
The beta begins in September, with the full launch following in November 2026.
Here's everything officially confirmed so far.
WoW Forever Release Date and Beta
World of Warcraft: Forever launches globally on November 4, 2026.
Access will be included with an active World of Warcraft Subscription or Game Time, so you won't need to purchase a separate base game to play Forever.
Before launch, Blizzard is running a beta from:
September 17 – October 21, 2026
Beta access is included with the Skyborne Epic Pack and Warcraft Forever Collection.
Players who purchase any Forever upgrade will also gain access to Early Name Reservation from October 27 through November 3, allowing up to three characters to be created and customized before launch.
What Is World of Warcraft: Forever?
The easiest way to understand Forever is through an idea WoW players have discussed for years:
Classic+.
But Blizzard is taking that concept much further.
Forever begins with original Azeroth as its foundation, while giving the development team freedom to create entirely new adventures within that world.
Players return to the Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor, level from 1 to 60 and experience familiar locations alongside new stories, areas, systems and challenges.
Unlike WoW Classic, however, Forever isn't designed to simply recreate Warcraft's original expansion timeline.
Blizzard describes it as a new permanent home alongside modern WoW and Classic.
This is not a season.
It's not a temporary mode.
And Blizzard specifically says it isn't simply another version of Classic.
Forever is meant to keep growing.
The Journey Matters Again
One of Blizzard's biggest goals with Forever is making Azeroth itself matter again.
The developers have outlined four major principles:
Keep the game approachable and familiar
Make the world the main character
Put the journey before the destination
Protect the social experiences that make an MMO feel alive
That philosophy affects almost everything.
There will be no flying mounts and no level scaling, while leveling is intended to remain just as important as endgame progression.
Running into other players, preparing for difficult encounters, grouping for dungeons, exploring forgotten corners of the map and simply traveling across Azeroth are supposed to matter again.
Forever doesn't want the world to become a lobby players rush through before reaching max level.
The world is the content.
A Reimagined Original Azeroth
Forever brings players back to the classic continents of Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor, but this isn't exactly the Azeroth you remember.
Blizzard is expanding unfinished regions, revisiting forgotten locations and filling spaces that players have stared at from beyond mountains and invisible boundaries for more than two decades.
The world is also receiving subtle rendering upgrades while preserving the visual identity of classic Warcraft.
Examples shown by Blizzard include:
Rivers flowing through Elwynn Forest
Mist hanging over Darkshore
Moonlight cutting through the trees of Ashenvale
Updated environmental effects and lighting
Players can even choose between modern and Classic visual presets, alongside HD or original-style character models.
Forever wants old Azeroth to feel familiar.
Just not frozen in 2004.
New Zones in WoW Forever
Three major new regions are part of Forever's expanded Azeroth, alongside the new Skyborne starting experience.
Mount Hyjal
Players will finally explore a version of Mount Hyjal built around the aftermath of Archimonde's defeat.
The area includes Darkwhisper Gorge and new storylines centered around helping the region recover while uncovering what remains hidden there.
Shen'dralas
A long-hidden area between Mulgore and Desolace becomes a full adventure tied to the Shen'dralar, Eldre'Thalas, Dire Maul and the surrounding centaur tribes.
It's exactly the kind of unfinished corner of original Azeroth that Forever was created to explore.
Riverglades
Riverglades is a frontier region filled with rivers, grasslands, trade routes, struggling communities and old conflicts.
Blizzard says the zone alone includes more than 150 new quests, primarily covering the mid-30s to mid-40s leveling range.
Zephras Isle
Zephras Isle serves as the home and starting experience of Forever's brand-new playable race, the Skyborne.
Characters progress through the island from approximately levels 1 to 12, with an aesthetic that combines classic Warcraft design with architecture inspired by Skywall and elemental magic.
More Than 1,000 New Quests
New content isn't being reserved for players who reach level 60.
Blizzard has confirmed more than 1,000 new quests spread throughout the 1–60 experience.
That distinction matters.
Instead of treating leveling as something players simply need to finish before the "real game" begins, Forever is adding major amounts of content directly into the leveling journey.
You may encounter completely new adventures while progressing through areas you've already explored dozens of times in Classic.
For new players, it means a huge Azeroth to discover.
For veterans, it gives a familiar world reasons to feel unknown again.

Meet the Skyborne
Forever introduces a completely new playable race: the Skyborne.
The Skyborne come from Zephras Isle and can choose their allegiance during character creation.
That means they aren't permanently tied to one faction.
Horde Skyborne embrace stronger elemental traditions and gain access to the Shaman class.
Alliance Skyborne pursue the arcane traditions of their ancestors and gain access to Mage.
Both factions can also play:
Skyborne Druids even receive unique forms created specifically for the race.
The Skyborne also come with their own racial abilities, voices, dances, customization options and visual identity.
New Race and Class Combinations
Forever is also expanding which races can play certain classes.
Confirmed combinations include options such as:
Dwarf Shaman
Forsaken Paladin
These combinations would never have existed in original Vanilla WoW, but they're part of Blizzard's approach to expanding the old game without destroying class identity.
Combined with the Skyborne, this should make choosing a new main — or rolling another alt — much more interesting at launch.
Class Design Is Changing
Forever isn't locking class design in 2004 either.
Classes are receiving new abilities, talent changes and gameplay updates designed to fill weaknesses while preserving what makes each class unique.
Blizzard's goal isn't to homogenize everyone.
Trade-offs still matter.
Class identity still matters.
And bringing the right combination of players to a dungeon, raid or PvP group should continue to matter.
For competitive players, this creates something particularly interesting:
Forever will have its own meta to solve.
New builds, talents, party compositions and strategies will emerge once players begin pushing higher-level content.
Nine New Dungeons
Dungeon players are getting a lot to explore.
Blizzard has confirmed nine new dungeons, many of them based on locations Warcraft players have discussed or wondered about for years.
The announced locations include:
These adventures take players across Azeroth and explore everything from Forsaken struggles in Lordaeron to Titan mysteries, magical disasters, naga, pirates and corruption buried beneath familiar locations.
This isn't Vanilla dungeon content with slightly different bosses.
These are completely new adventures built inside classic Azeroth.
New WoW Forever Raids
Raiding will also be a major part of Forever's endgame.
Blizzard has revealed two major new raid locations:
Barrow Deeps
Barrow Deeps is planned as a maximum-level 10-player raid.
Hyjal Summit
Hyjal Summit will offer 20-player raid encounters at one of the most important locations in Warcraft history.
These raids will introduce new encounters, gear and tier sets, along with a Legendary reward Blizzard has teased but hasn't fully revealed yet.
The first Forever raids are scheduled to unlock on December 9, 2026, giving players roughly a month after launch to level, gear up and prepare.
For players planning to push endgame content, that launch window should offer plenty of time to build a character, learn the new class meta and find a reliable team before the raid race begins.
PvP Is Getting New Content Too
Forever isn't only focused on PvE.
The Darkspear Islands will introduce a new 15v15 Battleground off the coast of Kalimdor.
The battleground mixes strategic control points with capture-and-defense mechanics inspired by Arathi Basin.
Blizzard is also reworking parts of the Honor system, with additional PvP content and updates planned after launch.
Because Forever has its own class changes, abilities and progression systems, its PvP meta should develop separately from both Classic and modern WoW.
The New Camping System
One of Forever's most interesting new features is Camping.
Players will be able to create camps in the outdoor world, giving nearby adventurers a place to gather, contribute through professions and share campsite buffs.
The system fits directly into Blizzard's goal of rebuilding spontaneous social interaction.
Instead of every player running independently from quest marker to quest marker, camps give adventurers another reason to stop and interact with the people they meet along the way.
It sounds simple.
But in a game built around rediscovering the social side of classic WoW, it could make a surprisingly big difference.
Professions Matter Again
Professions are receiving significant attention in Forever.
Blizzard wants crafting, gathering and specialized recipes to remain relevant throughout the leveling journey rather than becoming something players ignore until endgame.
Professions also interact with systems such as Camping, creating more opportunities for players to contribute to groups outside of pure combat.
Some recipes and progression will also connect directly with challenging PvE content.
The broader idea is clear:
Your profession should feel like part of your character's identity again.
Legacy Progression and Alts
Forever is introducing a new account-focused progression feature called the Legacy system.
It's designed especially for players who enjoy leveling and playing multiple characters.
Instead of every alt feeling completely disconnected from everything you've already accomplished, Legacy provides long-term progression that can follow your wider Forever journey.
Blizzard has emphasized that the system isn't intended to create unfair competitive advantages.
It's about making long-term progression and alt play feel more rewarding without turning account bonuses into mandatory power.
For players who constantly reroll classes, test builds or maintain multiple raid-ready characters, Legacy could become one of Forever's most useful systems.
Transmog, Classic Models and Controller Support
Forever might follow classic principles, but Blizzard isn't refusing every modern convenience.
Players will have access to several optional features, including:
The key word here is choice.
Players who want something close to the traditional Classic presentation can keep it.
Players who prefer modern visuals and customization can enable those instead.
Level 60 Is the Foundation
One of Forever's biggest differences from traditional WoW expansions is its approach to progression.
The adventure begins with a level cap of 60.
Rather than immediately sending players toward another 10 levels every time major content arrives, Forever is designed around expanding what players can do within original Azeroth.
That creates room for more horizontal progression through:
New equipment
New builds
New abilities
New stories
New dungeons
New raids
New world activities
New progression systems
It also prevents huge parts of Azeroth from automatically becoming irrelevant every time another expansion launches.
For a game that wants its world to remain the main character, that philosophy makes sense.
WoW Forever vs WoW Classic: What's the Difference?
This is probably the biggest question surrounding the game.
WoW Classic recreates Warcraft's past.
WoW Forever starts from that past and creates a different future.
Classic largely allows players to revisit versions and expansions that previously existed.
Forever gives Blizzard a permanent version of original Azeroth where it can create content that never existed before.
That includes new:
Zones
Quests
Races
Race/class combinations
Abilities
Dungeons
Raids
Battlegrounds
Systems
Progression paths
Stories
while retaining the slower pace, level-60 foundation and social philosophy associated with early World of Warcraft.
Calling it Classic+ is an easy way to understand the concept.
But Blizzard is clearly positioning Forever as something bigger:
a third permanent branch of World of Warcraft.
WoW Forever Editions
You don't need to purchase an upgrade edition to play Forever after launch.
Access is included with regular World of Warcraft Subscription or Game Time.
The optional editions offer benefits such as Skyborne access, cosmetics, beta access and other extras.

Skyborne Heroic Pack
The Heroic Pack includes:
Access to the Skyborne race
Zephras Isle starting experience
Early Name Reservation
Cerulean Prideclaw ground mount
Shen'dorei Skyseer's Garb
Veteran Adventurer's Rucksack
Shen'dorei Windwell toy
Skyborne Housing decor for modern WoW
One Invite-A-Friend Launch Code
Skyborne Epic Pack
The Epic Pack includes everything from the Heroic Pack plus:
Warcraft Forever Collection
The limited-time Warcraft Forever Collection includes everything from the Skyborne Epic Pack plus:
For players interested in following the storyline into Forever, Forsaken Kingdom is particularly relevant because its events lead directly toward the era in which Forever takes place.
World of Warcraft: Forever Collector's Edition
For players who want something more tangible than the digital bundles, Blizzard is also releasing a physical World of Warcraft: Forever Collector's Edition.
The package includes the digital Warcraft Forever Collection alongside physical collectibles created around Forever and the early days of Azeroth.
Inside the Collector's Edition:
Because the Warcraft Forever Collection digital code is included, Collector's Edition owners also receive the Skyborne Epic Pack, Warcraft III: Reforged and the Forsaken Kingdom campaign.
That means access to benefits such as the Skyborne race, Zephras Isle starting experience, beta access, 30 days of Game Time and the associated digital cosmetics.
The physical Collector's Edition is available through the Blizzard Gear Store while supplies last.
For longtime Warcraft collectors, it's easily the most complete version of Forever being offered.

Bring a Friend for Launch Week
Blizzard is also making it easier to bring friends back to Azeroth.
Qualifying upgrade purchases include Invite-A-Friend Launch Codes.
Eligible friends can use these codes to play World of Warcraft: Forever without their own active subscription or Game Time during launch week.
The access window runs from:
November 4 – November 11, 2026
Codes begin being distributed by email on October 20.
The Heroic Pack includes one code, while the Epic Pack and Warcraft Forever Collection include three total codes.
For a version of WoW built heavily around community and social play, it's a fitting launch feature.
What Happens After WoW Forever Launches?
November 4 is only the beginning.
Blizzard has already confirmed plans for Forever after launch, including:
New raids beginning December 9
Additional raids
More dungeons
More quests throughout levels 1–60
New world content
PvP updates
Hardcore
A revamped iconic raid
Major system updates
Continued expansion of Azeroth
That's ultimately what makes Forever so interesting.
This isn't Blizzard preserving original World of Warcraft exactly as it was.
It's Blizzard asking a much more exciting question:
What if original Azeroth had simply kept growing?
Is World of Warcraft: Forever Worth Watching?
Absolutely.
For longtime players, Forever offers something familiar without asking them to replay exactly the same adventure again.
For newer players, it could offer a fresh entry point into the slower, more social style of early World of Warcraft without being permanently locked to every design decision made in 2004.
And for competitive players, there's going to be an entirely new meta to figure out.
New classes and builds.
New leveling routes.
New dungeons.
New PvP strategies.
New raids.
New gear progression.
Whether you're planning to explore Azeroth casually, improve through WoW coaching, push harder content with experienced players, or hire a pro teammate to adventure alongside you, Forever is shaping up to give players plenty of new goals to chase.
World of Warcraft: Forever launches November 4, 2026, with beta beginning September 17.
The old world is coming back.
This time, Blizzard doesn't plan to leave it in the past.
